Colorado Eagles move to the ECHL
The ECHL is the premier 'AA' league for ice hockey in North America, and the Colorado Eagles are the newest member. This exciting news will surely generate some questions about how this will affect the team on the ice, our season ticket holders, and the continued development of the Northern Colorado landscape.
WHAT CHANGES?
MORE Hockey - Teams in the ECHL have a 72-game schedule, which means we'll be playing 36 home games at the Budweiser Events Center!
NEW Teams- The ECHL will have 20 teams in 2011-12 divided into two conferences. The Colorado Eagles will be in the Western Conference.
EXCITING Locations- The Colorado Eagles will play in new locations including Anchorage AK, Las Vegas NV, Bakersfield CA, Boise ID, and more!
BETTER Player Opportunities - The ECHL currently boasts that 466 former players have risen to the top and played in the NHL; this provides talented young athletes a greater opportunity to "move up" and will assist the Colorado Eagles in creating better teams on the ice.
HIGH-STAKES Hockey - Most of the teams in the ECHL have both an American Hockey League and National Hockey League affiliate. As the premier AA ice hockey league, the expectation to perform and deliver will increase.
LARGER Footprint - The ECHL spans from Anchorage, AK to Trenton, NJ and from Estero, FL to Bakersfield, CA. The 20 teams of the ECHL come from 16 different states in the US.
